An Ode to 5 A.M.*

The alarm clock cannot defend itself.

It feels no pity to my pleads for sleep.

It only mocks me from its place on the shelf,

with that annoying bleep!

There is something about 5 a.m.

that makes even grown men want to stay in bed.

Oh, 5 a.m., you are the time when angels fear to tread!

*A poem that Sarah Knott was forced to write last year for her poetry unit. It applies very well today.

  1. Oh Sarah, I love this. Although it makes me want to run down to the basement, get one of Seth's old bats, run up those stairs, go to my room and smash my alarm clock in. Man, you would think that the alarm clock would have feelings. I know I wouldn't want to get smooshed in by a bat!
